Application

The Magnify application developed by Information Strategies takes advantage of the Microsoft Surface Vision System to enable the interaction between a physical tool and a virtual environment.   This application uses the Microsoft Surface’s Vision System to enable the interaction between a physical tool and a virtual environment.  

In this case, the tool is a 6.5” diameter ring that allows the user to zoom into pictures.   The ring has an image tag on the back so that Surface can recognize it.   When the ring is placed on Surface, it magnifies the section of the picture inside the ring.   When the ring is turned clockwise, it zooms into the picture;  turning it counterclockwise zooms out.  

This application also takes advantage of Surface’s multi-user capability and allows the use of multiple tools.

The Magnify Utility shows two key concepts of Microsoft Surface:

• Microsoft Surface applications can use physical tools.
• People can interface with Microsoft Surface applications without menus.
