Marine Corps Recruiting Command Automated Enlistment Package
Infostrat and SAIC developed the Marine Corps Recruiting Command Automated Enlistment Package (MCRC AEP) using Microsoft’s development platform, which provides scalability, flexibility, and extensibility.
BACKGROUNDThe Marine Corps Recruiting Command (MCRC) wanted to automate its process for processing applicants. Each prospective Marine Corps applicant is thoroughly screened before enlisting in the Marine Corps and recruiters must fill out a detailed enlistment package for each prospective applicant as the applicant progresses through the recruiting process. Among other things, recruiters must schedule, track and report: physical exams, mental aptitude exams, disqualifications, discharges, swearing in and shipping to boot camp - each of which may take place in different locations.
PROBLEMRecruiting is considered the most stressful non-combat assignment in the Marine Corps. The MCRC needed to implement a flexible AEP that would help recruiters keep pace with the urgent demands of Marine Corps systematic recruiting.
Some of the key requirements include:
The previous AEP had a poorly designed user interface, did not adequately support recruiting operations, was unable to enforce critical business rules and data integrity which often resulted in inconsistent or bad data and did not meet the rigorous Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) constraints with respect to software on Marine workstations.
SOLUTIONInfostrat and its teaming partner SAIC built the new AEP using a "what you see is what you get" (WYSIWYG) approach with Microsoft Excel as the foundation. Marine Corps recruiters are familiar with Microsoft Excel and are intimately familiar with the forms that make up an enlistment package. This approach made the AEP intuitive and easy to use and has decreased learning and training time for the Marine Corps.

Business ProfileMarine Corps Recruiting Command Automated Enlistment Package (MCRC AEP)Solution at a glanceCreated an Excel and XML based application for Marine Corps recruiters to manage enlistment packages for new applicants.Technologies involved Microsoft Excel Visual Basic XML Business and data integrity rules are enforced using Microsoft Visual Basic within Excel workbooks. Data storage for applicant data is handled with XML files that can be easily copied between recruiters and can be easily uploaded to MCRISS servers. This approach satisfies NMCI constraints and supports uploads to MCRISS servers. The primary purpose of the AEP is to allow recruiters to easily load, print and save data about applicants throughout the recruiting process. The key functionality includes: Central switchboard screen to administer the AEP Create enlistment packages for new applicants Open enlistment packages for existing applicants Print any of the forms in the package Enter and save data about applicants Navigate between forms Automatically detect when new forms are added to the package Auto installer CD Demo Shield training/tutorial video Workbooks locked to prevent unauthorized tampering User input forms to handle business and data integrity rules WYSIWYG display of data for ease of use and printing FURTHER IMPLEMENTATIONInfostrat will continue to enhance the functionality of the AEP such that it can be readily expanded to support future enhancements and additional functionality. ____________________________ These case studies are provided to illustrate the capabilities of Infostrat in delivering solutions on the Microsoft platform.
